Class #6- February 24th, 2011

Class #6- February 24th, 2011

Today, the class started as usual with us posting on Facebook letting Doc Chris know we were here in class today.  Next, Doc Chris spoke about how preproduction is the most important part of video production.  We also spoke about how preproduction and production is happening all over the world.  We discussed how elections is part of preproduction.  Doc Chris also mentioned that Comcast needs to step their game up because their customer service, editorial policy, and internet/cable service is lacking.  I really enjoyed how Doc Chris wanted to play music during in class today.  It made class more fun and laid back.  Doc Chris also gave us our assignment for the week.  The assignment was: Everyone please give your opinion of what is going on in the Middle East with social media, traditional video and cell phone/flip video being used to demand change? How has media impacted these changes? Do you understand why I have you using social media in this class with video and gadgets now?"
The question of "Do we censor video content in America if so why? If not why not?" was also brought up.

We spoke about ethics and critical thinking throughout class.  We also discussed how social media is censored and if thats a good or bad thing.  The influence of social networking is very important nowadays.  Twitter, cellphones, flip cameras and different technological gadgets now help us see the real side of the news.  With these technologies we can see both sides of the story without censors and editing . I would rather to see the raw footage, because it gives a better insight to the event without it being changed for the media.

In all, todays class was about critical thinking and remebering who our audiences are:

  1. Your Sponsers
  2. Your Stakeholders
  3. Your Audience
Then we changed the discussion of class to the progress of our groups.  Doc Chris asked us how our projects were going.  Then Doc Chris spoke about how we need to start calling and contacting the people we are using in our commercials for the stage of preproduction.  I really enjoyed this class and I think Doc Chris did a great job of teaching us about the different ways that critical thinking and ethics tie into how we use video and technology everyday.  He brought up some very good questions and made some very interesting points. In all, I really enjoyed todays class!

Fun Fact: We learned the seven words you cannot say on air.
